The Messenger — VR Historical/Museum Experience
I developed the Unreal Engine interaction systems for The Messenger, a historical VR experience created for a museum environment.
The project incorporated a physical recreation of a historical shallop/small boat, allowing visitors to interact with physical elements while experiencing the corresponding environment through VR. One of the primary technical challenges was creating a convincing relationship between the physical controls and the virtual experience.
I implemented the Unreal Engine systems responsible for these interactions, including the connection between the physical tiller and the corresponding movement within the virtual environment. The experience needed to be intuitive enough for members of the public to understand with minimal instruction while also being robust enough for repeated use as a museum installation.
The project combined VR development, physical hardware integration and interactive gameplay-style systems, providing experience in building technology specifically for public-facing immersive installations.
