Race the HD-4 — VR Game

I developed Unreal Engine systems for Race the HD-4, an immersive historical VR experience based on Alexander Graham Bell's HD-4 hydrofoil.
 

A key aspect of the project was combining the virtual experience with a physical recreation of the HD-4 cockpit. Rather than simply placing the user inside a virtual vehicle, the experience incorporated physical controls and seating designed to reinforce the connection between the real and virtual environments.
 

I implemented the Unreal Engine systems responsible for the interactive experience, including the connection between physical controls and their corresponding actions in the virtual environment. The experience also incorporated rumble/haptic feedback, allowing physical vibration to reinforce events occurring within the simulation.
 

The project required consideration of both traditional Unreal development and the practical requirements of a public-facing VR installation, where interactions needed to be intuitive, reliable and repeatable for many different users.
